April 9, 1865

This war has finally come to an end. General Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House in Virginia. Finally this Union can begin to become one again. While quite the challenge, I look forward to the road ahead.

1864

I have been remiss in my posting during these difficult times. It is hard to balance my time closely leading this horrid war with posting on my blog. We suffered greatly, but have made huge victorious strides last year. With the appointment of a competent general in Ulyssess S. Grant I feel the tides are turning. The public agreed and reelected me President.

April 1861

This month, Union troops were attacked at Fort Sumter. We were ill-prepared for this battle and the Fort fell. Well I hope this can still be resolved quickly, I feel we may be in for a long road ahead.

November 6, 1860

On this day, I was elected 16th President of these United States. I fear we are qutie divided with this election. I was elected with great popularity in the north, but was left off the ballot completely in nine southern states. It is a difficult time that lies ahead.

1858

"'A house divided against itself cannot stand.'(Mark 3:25) I believe this government cannot endure permanently half slave and half free. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved — I do not expect the house to fall — but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing, or all the other."

1854

After a successful legal career of both civil and criminal law, I feel the time is right to return to politics. I cannot stand idly by while this Kansas-Nebraska Act expands slavery with popular sovereignty.

1848

Following some difficult times and a challenged speech, I have decided to abandon politics and return to Illinois. I feel I may be back some day to Washington.
